Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes

ree

So we sit down to dinner and my husband goes, "it's delicious, but it's a mess." To which I respond, "well, yeah it's a sloppy joe." So grab a handful of napkins, but I guarantee you're going to love this one!

This recipe is just as is sounds... a classic Sloppy Joe sandwich served up with Cheeseburger vibes. Start by browning you meat in a large skillet - ground beef or turkey will do. Simmer with diced tomatoes, and stir in a combination of ketchup, mustard and relish.

And now it's time to prepare a tangy, creamy sauce not unlike Big Mac sauce. Not only does this sauce add great flavor, but I find when slathered across the burger bun, it also helps to serve as a bit of "glue" to contain the slop. For added Cheeseburger flare, after piling the meat mixture onto the sauced bottom bun, I top the Sloppy Joe with a slice of cheddar cheese, pickles and shredded lettuce.

Serve the Cheeseburger Sloppy Joe with a side of roasted veggies and maybe a handful of chips, and you've got yourself a quick mid-week meal.

Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes

Ingredients

For the sloppy joes

· 2 tbsp olive oil

· 1lb ground meat, turkey or beef

· 1 small red onion, diced

· 14oz can petite diced tomatoes and their juices

· 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

· ½ tsp salt

· ½ tsp pepper

· 3 tbsp ketchup

· 1 tbsp yellow mustard

· 1 tbsp sweet relish

· 4 burger buns, toasted

· 4 slices cheddar cheese

· 1/3 cup pickle chips

· 1 cup lettuce, shredded

For the sauce

· 2 tbsp mayo

· 1 tbsp ketchup

· 1 tsp apple cider vinegar

· 1 tbsp relish

· ¼ tsp onion powder

· ¼ tsp garlic powder

· ¼ tsp paprika

· ½ tsp sugar

· ¼ tsp black pepper

For the sloppy joes… Heat oil over medium high heat in a large skillet. Add the ground meat. Crumble and brown the meat. Reduce the heat to medium low and add the onion. Cook until translucent. Stir in the canned tomatoes, Worcestershire, salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard, and relish. Reduce the heat to low, cover and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes until thickened.

Prepare the sauce while the sloppy joes cook. In a small bowl, whisk together all the ingredients. Set aside.

Once ready to serve, slather a small spoonful of the sauce over the bottom bun. Pile a heaping serving of the meat mixture over the sauce. Top the sloppy joe with a slice of cheese, a few pickles, and a handful of shredded lettuce.
